Excellent sharp work, very pleasant to handle, the cover fits neatly, beautiful patina. Very good object for a scholar’s desk. Length 9.25 inches.

Nokyojiku, hanging scroll with stamps and inscriptions (shuin) collected at temples visited at the Saigoku pilgrimage circuit. At each temple the pilgrim asks the custodian of the temple to stamp and inscribe his scroll. These scrolls are carried mostly by pilgrims who travel along the 88 holy sites of Shikoku, by pilgrims who complete a circuit of Kannon temples, and/or of Fudo Myo-o temples.

The traditional motifs (Tenpyo Moyo) such as peonix, deer, kylin (imaginary animal), dragon, Parrot etc. These four (originally five) were made by Ikeda Gankodo which is only existing maker of it in Nara. Very small shrine holding the figure of Dakiniten riding a white (or silver) fox. Dakiniten is worshiped at the Toyokawa Inari temples. The zushi is on the inside encased behind a glass pane, surrounded by painted treasure symbols. These kind of zushi are sold at the temple to the patrons and other visitors. Polychromed wood with abundant gold and silver Japan, dated Taisho 13 (1924).
