Huge old Japanese doll, Showa period depicts a Bijin Geisha courtesan in a pose, performing traditional hat dance with six hats. Beautifully hand-painted silk face, wearing large hat, her hair adorned in front and sides with hair pins and hair ornaments. She is elaborately dressed in a gold brocade, red silk kimono, woven with flowers and leaves with a contrasting gold brocade, dark brown silk dangling obi, patterned with various woven Japanese samurai family’s crests (Mons)...

Very unusual and elegant Japanese Kuronbo (of African decent) wooden kokeshi doll. Especially hard to find with a child. Dating mid 20th century, this would fit perfectly in a mid-century home or a make perfect gift for the collector. IMPORTANT NOTE: Glare from lights makes a shape that follows the curve of the chin making making the mother's mouth appear to have lips. She does not. Adult doll measures 11" tall, child is 4.75" high"

Miniature set of koi-nobori (carp streamer) which is put up on the Boy's Festival (or Child's Day on May 5). It is often decorated with miniature yoroi-kabuto (armors) or samurai dolls. Carp is a symbol of strength and success. 1970s. Two banners and outer cloth of two carp are synthetic. In good condition except for a small tip in the one of spears and one of tiny screw for wheels (yaguruma) is lost...

2 Japanese Hina Doll Miniature Stands, Lacquer on wood, 1930-1940, 3 1/4" high, 8 1/2" wide-widest point, 4" deep-deepest point, beautiful gold Lacquer flowers and vines decoration on Black Lacquered Wood, two(2) pieces fitted together to make stand, display fine Lacquer Doll furniture and accessories during Hina Doll Festival every year. The condition is good.

2 Japanese Kiri Wood and Polychrome painted Miniature Hina Doll Stands, 1940, 2 5/8" high, 6" wide, 4 1/2" deep-top, in good condition.

Ainu woman doll made of clay with cotton clothing which might be "ru-unbe" or "kaparamip". The Ainu pattern is hand-drawn. In excellent condition. 20th century. H:25.5cm

This is a fairly large set of “hayashi” doll, court music entertainers, all dressed in samurai’s attire with a sword. Three seated dolls in the front row are approx. 5 1/2” (14 1/2 cm) tall x 9 1/2” (23-23.5 cm) wide, excluding hat and stand. The taiko drummer is 11 1/4” (29cm) wide, a little bigger. Two in back row, seated on stools, are 7 1/2” (19cm) tall x 9 3/4” (25cm) wide. The stands are lacquered wood.

This tea set was brought back by American missionary who was in China 1920-1948...She was repatriated to the US immediately after WW2 and returned by way of Japan. Considering condition of Japan when she was there, set was probably made sometime before WW2. The 4 piece set was probably used to accompany hina doll display The Habachi has separate lid, food bowl, cup/saucer, netsume has removable top, each piece hand turned wood...

Charming small Japanese standing gosho ningyo boy doll, made all of a low-fire ceramic and painted in beautiful detail, Showa Period. Size: 5 1/2" high

Exquisite set of Japanese Dairi bina (hina), the emperor and the empress dolls from early to mid Showa period. This is not a large set of dolls. The measurements of the wood box are 17” wide x 12 3/4” tall x 13 1/2” deep. We should add the approximate sizes of dolls. The label indicates that they are from Matsuzaka-ya, a major department store. Matsuzaka-ya started as a kimono store in late 16th century, pre Edo period...

Japanese Male Doll with Samurai hair cut, 3 5/8" high, 4 3/4" wide, 3" deep, wearing brocade silk garment. The expression of his face is very well executed and lacquered on the carved wood. The condition is very good.

Magnificent master work by Hirata Gōyō II (1903 - 1981) of a Bijin (young beauty). It features a wonderfully carved head and body cover with many layers of gofun oyster shell lacquer, with sumptuous brocade with gold thread wave pattern and applied chirimen silk with painted image of waves and cherry blossoms. circa 1945. 14.5 inches (37cm) tall...

Japanese Musha Ningyo of Jimmu, the First Emperor of Japan, made by Beishu. Beishu has Mukei Bunkazai status (Important Intangible Cultural Property). His Shoki shows great craftsmanship, with silk hair, glass eyes, gofun face and hands, with sumptuous silk brocade. This magnificent sculpture reaches the level of the master work of Beishu, whose work is found in museums and important collections of the Showa Period in Japan. Signed and dated 1960. 20 inches (51cm) high.
