Small peddler’s chest, or small choba dansu, used for carrying scales, abacus and other merchant’s tools of the trade. Corners and edges covered in thin metal; heavily decorated with birds, flowers and gourds in copper-based metal and with a Bugaku mask (Ranryo-o, the Dragon King) in wood applied on the cover. Large top compartment and two drawers. Japan, early 20th century.

'Wagatabon' local primitive wooden tray with chisel marks made of chestnut reused from old house roof originated from Wagatani village in Ishikawa prefecture that was disappeared by dam construction in 1965.
