Large early Republic Chinese cloisonne lidded box on stand that could have graced a scholar’s desk. On each side is a 5 toed Imperial yellow dragon with the dragon on the lid chasing the flaming pearl of wisdom; all against a dark sky blue ground, the contrasting yellow stand really makes this piece stand out. The metal and wires are bronze gilt over copper. In excellent condition it measures 13.5" wide x 7" deep x 8.75" high

A rare 18th/19th Century carved agate snuff bottle with, possibly later, silver and rose quartz stopper. On the stopper is inscribed the Shanghai silversmiths "Wen Yuan" who are recorded as having traded from the Jiaqing (1796-1820) reign through until the Republic period (1912- 1949). Condition - excellent - there is a shallow chip on top, next to the mouth (please view enlargement 11) no further damages and no restoration. 5cm (2inches) high; 4.8cm (1.9 inches) wide.

Two matching Japanese chargers, done with the Imari pallet, and dating to the mid 19th Century. Decorations include a foo dog, dragons, and cranes among flowers and scrolls. This fine pottery head was made during the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 8). It has been "cold painted" in a base coat of white pigment on top of which have been painted pink, red and black pigments to pick out the facial details.
