Classical coin silver serving tongs. Made by William Gale & Son in New York. U-form with double-scroll terminal on each side and scalloped shanks. One side has shaped blade with open rectangles; the other side has 3 tines. Monogram engraved on handle. A fine piece by a historic maker, that underwent many changes in partnerships and names. It was active in this incarnation in the 1850s. Marked. Very good condition. Taut and springy.

Magnificent American Classical coin silver tureen. Made by Gorham in Providence, ca 1860. Curved ovoid bowl on stepped oval foot mounted to four beaded and round supports. Cover domed. Bowl rim has bold beading bordered by applied guilloche. On each end is cast satyr’s head with flamboyantly ribbed horns and slack jaw holding loose-mounted ring.
