Set of 8 American Modern sterling silver matchbox holders, ca 1920. Retailed by Udall & Ballou in New York. Rectangular with open ends; sides have cutout tubes. On each is applied enameled dog. Five breeds represented. On back engraved block presentation: “J.G.R. / FROM / M.A.P.” In original leather-bound case with fitted velvet, silk, and gilt-stamped retailer’s stamp. A great canine collectible. Very good condition. Scottie has minor enamel loss on tail.

Set of 12 Modern Gothic sterling silver demitasse holders. Made by Tiffany & Co. in New York, 1927. Each holder: Drum-form holder with stepped rims. Each saucer: Deep plain well and canted rim. Engraved interlaced arcade with stylized pendant flowers and fleurs de lys (fleurs de lys pierced on holders). A hearkening back to the Aesthetic Movement a half century before though stylistically compatible with 1920s Art Deco. With: Cream porcelain liner with gilt mouth rim bands.

On sides acanthus leaf arcade. On bottom leaf in chamfered rectangular frame radiating line on dotted ground. Cover top has oval (vacant). A pocket-sized keepsake from the late Georgian era. Shoulder has applied leaf and flowerhead border with radiating squiggles incised on body. High-looping handle with layered and sprawling leaf mount. Same beneath handle. Four volute-scroll supports with leaf and flowerhead mounts.
