18th century Japanese sword iron tsuba depicting a puppy playfully crouching by flowers and blades of grass as it watches a butterfly above it. Nice composition with well captured attitude, wonderful detailing of its chubby body done in iron, which is notoriously difficult to work with, multimetal inlays, gilded highlights. Beautiful patina, very pleasant feel of age.. Height 3 1/4 inches.
