Circa 1965 red free form metal sculpture on a black wooden base by George Curtis (1923-2010). Curtis developed a unique way of creating freedom as opposed to formal structure sculptures. Using a 5 gallon pail filled with water and potatoes, he would melt scrap aluminum and pour it into the pail. This stoneware bowl was made during the Koryo Dynasty (AD 918 - 1392). It is glazed all over in quite a thick and finely-crackled celadon glaze. There are "spur" marks within the glaze from firing spacers to the centre of the bowl as well as around the outside of the foot.
