This old Japanese Noh theater mask has the expressive face of an old man. The mask is carved from paulownia wood and dates to middle Edo period, around 1750. The patina is wonderful.

Wooden mask imaging the old hag Datsueba with an emaciated face, high cheekbones, long eyebrows and a sagging mouth in which teeth are missing. Beautiful caricature, very rare subject matter.
The old woman is most likely Datsueba, the old hag that sits at the the Sanzu River, the entrance to Buddhist Hell.
The mask has light traces of usage on the inside and was probably used in a country side theater situation.

A very rare anthropomorphic chain model ghurra showing a seated ancestor which seems to be in meditation position, (note a local repair at the arm which has been re-fixed). Unusual mask with flat top, small forehead, relief pierced through eyes, protruding nose, open mouth showing pierced through teeth, short rounded chin. Wood, dark patina. A textile panel made of different dyed silk stripes, exquisitely embroidered with motifs from Zoroastrian myths such as fishes or botehs. The backing is a coarse blue dyed cotton, framed by a black ribbon. These embroidery panels originally would have formed the knee to ankle section of one trouser leg, of a shalvar (pantaloon) from a Zoroastrian woman's wedding costume. A massive bronze (copper tin alloy) vase cast in Han dynasty Hu shape and with Han style Taotie mask handles. The archaistic style decoration is an amalgam of Shang and Zhou dynasty motifs. A stunning vintage necklace by Chanel with 5 chains and a quilted hook clasp. Marked on the back with CHANEL, CC Made in France on an oval cartouche.

The 5 chains are connected on each side 1/3 the way up to help the necklace lay correctly.

Beautiful, circa 1900, flow blue 10 1/8” dinner plate featuring hunting and floral scenes. By Sampson Hancock of England in their Leicester pattern, it comes with a hanger as shown in photos.

A 6 inch diameter signed Galle bowl on which the rim is rolled inward to give the bowl 3 lobes.. The dark red overlay of fuschia blossoms and leaves is laid on a nearly colorless ground with a satin finish. The bowl is 3 inches deep and has a ground pontil.
