A fine pair of Kashmir lidded jars or vases. The copper base was first engraved with special tools to create the design in relief, the grooves were later filled with glass and then embellished with additional engraving and wonderful shiny gilding. This technique is called in India "meena" or "meenakari" and was first applied by the Mughal. Condition: fine, only one rim with a small dent and minor wear to gilding. Kebutsu (lit. transformed Buddha) seated upon clouds, ichiboku-zukuri single-block wooden construction with lacquer/gilt/polychrome finish, displayed on a pierced-work gilt-copper keko (Buddhist ritual-use flower basket). The kebutsu early-Edo ca. 1650, the keko clearly dated to the third year of the Genroku Era (1680), mid-Edo Period. Minor old loss and patination.

Unusual mask with flat top, small forehead, relief pierced through eyes, protruding nose, open mouth showing pierced through teeth, short rounded chin. Wood, dark patina. A pair of rare 19th C Chinese hand carved hardwood, possibly Hong Mu wood, Scholars desk trays in a large lily pad leaf design with flower heads. A fine Japanese incense burner, made of wood with pierced gilt copper lid, the interior with copper lining. On a black lacquer ground slightly raised decoration showing a landscape with rockwork and trees in different gold lacquer techniques. Condition: please look at the photos carefully, traces of age and usage, few small lacquer losses, rim with two cracks, lid slightly distorted. Dimension: c. 8.4 cm high, c. 4.8 cm long and wide.

Sho-Kannon Bosatsu seated on a lotus-form dais. Yosegi-zukuri joined wood-block construction, finished in lacquer and gilt, the ornamental head-piece in gilt-copper and the eyes of inset rock-crystal. Early-Edo Period ca. 1675. Excellent condition, with only minor old loss to the head-piece and loss of the rock-crystal originally inset in the urna, with desirable patination overall.

Large early Republic Chinese cloisonne lidded box on stand that could have graced a scholar’s desk. On each side is a 5 toed Imperial yellow dragon with the dragon on the lid chasing the flaming pearl of wisdom; all against a dark sky blue ground, the contrasting yellow stand really makes this piece stand out. Late 19c Chinese Blackwood or possibly Zitan wood brush pot in the classic style with smooth sides and a raised ring at mouth and bottom having 3 low standing low profile feet with drain hole in center bottom of pot. Carved from a single piece of wood, it still retains its original plug which is easily removed for drainage. In excellent condition commensurate with age, it measures 4-5/8" high x 4-1/8" diameter.

Incredible circa 1870s Cantonese export finely carved natural (no finish applied) sandalwood three place photo frame.
