A Japanese cast iron tetsubin or water kettle with an undulating rim. The sides are cast in relief with a temple compound amid pines in a generic landscape, the reverse with sparrows in flight, all above a key-fret band. The kettle has a typical stubby "S" spout, wrought iron overhead swing handle, and is fitted with a bronze lid having "garlic clove" knop. Two matching Japanese chargers, done with the Imari pallet, and dating to the mid 19th Century. Decorations include a foo dog, dragons, and cranes among flowers and scrolls. A fine pair of Kashmir lidded jars or vases. The copper base was first engraved with special tools to create the design in relief, the grooves were later filled with glass and then embellished with additional engraving and wonderful shiny gilding. DESCRIPTION: A classic and quite old pair of hand carved South American wood stirrups. The Guacho of Argentina, the Morochucos of Peru and the Hauso of Chile all preferred large wooden "shoes" for use as stirrups rather than the more prevalent iron stirrup. This fun vintage large cast iron Fedora hat-form paperweight is straight out of the 30's, comprised of gold painted nicely detailed banded hat with a worn look, circa 1940, probably American made. Measurements: 4 1/2" long x 3 1/2" wide x 2 1/2" high. Great condition having a few bumps and bruises made to look authentic. Slight wear to the finish adds to the overall look of the hat.
