This is a rare and large, top quality Satsuma Jar or vase by Yabu Meizan. We are not sure because the top is both gilded and glazed on the inside edge. The beautiful Meiji era lid is not original to the piece. The gold detail and landscape painting are beautiful. It is stoutly potted and measures 9 inches tall by 8 1/2 inches wide. This piece is not signed but at one time it was signed by Yabu Meizan. The original signature has been covered up by an excellent restoration to a drill hole. The pri...

This is a very fine pair of Japanese satsuma vases that stand just 4 1/4 inches tall. Attractive form, enamel colors and very fine details. They look like they have spent most of their lives stored in the box. One has the original sticker and both are signed. The signature looks a bit like the Kozan mark but we are not sure. Some of the larger flowers remind us of work seen on Bizan and Yabu pieces.

This is a very fine and unusual Japanese Satsuma vase with relief figures. The work on this piece is highly detailed and the gold thickly applied. The Dragon and clouds are decorated with silver. The piece is in very good condition will minor wear. The Artist signature is the most worn area on the piece. With magnification it can be seen that it is signed Fuzan but it is very hard to make out. I have included a similar Fuzan mark for comparison. The vase stands 8 1/2 inches tall.

This is a highly detailed Japanese Satsuma vase from the great Meiji artist Shizan. Look close at the images because the fine detail is as good as most of the finer pieces and easily looked over. The vase stands 4 3/4 inches tall. The vase is in excellent condition. Price is firm.

This large pottery jar was made over 4,000 years ago during the Machang Phase (c. 2300 - 2000 BC) of the Majiayao culture, also known as the Gansu-Yangshao culture, from present day Gansu or Qinghai province. It is quite "heavily-potted" with a well-rounded body, two sturdy loop handles and wide flared mouth. It is relatively highly-fired. The inside of the mouth and the upper body have been coated in a reddish-brown was...

Large Chinese Yuan Dynasty Blue & White Jar with Cover - Oxford TL Test

This large and rare early underglazed jar, complete with cover, was made during the Yuan Dynasty (AD 1279 - 1368) at one of the kilns at Yuxi in Yunnan province. Although classed as "blue & white" ware, the colour of the underglaze cobalt blue does vary in places and the clear glaze is distinctly greenish in colour. Already a very rare type of jar, the "Three Friends of Winter" pattern around the shoulder makes it even r...

This is a very fine unsigned Japanese cloisonne vase with a unique form. The enamel and wire work are exquisite. It is not signed but the quality is so good and so unique that the maker is Hayashi. Look at the last image of a signed 3 3/4 inch vase and compare them. The work on this vase is not only similar, the gold wire birds, unique spider mums and leaves on this vase are even smaller in size. There is also another sold Hayashi vase (#1352365) on my sight with similar spider mums and also wi...

This is a great example of Japanese Satsuma artistry. Ths bowl was made and signed by Hankinzan. The bowl measures 5 inches across. It is an exceptional piece with extremely fine work. There are hundreds of detailed birds all with overglaze enamels. I believe it was made with the thicker mercury fired gold. While this bowl looks nearly perfect, it has about a 1 inch line that goes part way down one side that is very hard to see with out magnification. May also have a tiny fill or factory repair ...

From a well-known series entitled “Chōtō” (Listening to the Waves) this large contoured vase features a sandy glaze that the sculptor claims is an expression of the features of the landscape where he grew up.

Born in the port city of Shimoda, Sakiyama studied art in Osaka and then later went on to open his own kiln that he named “Hidaka” (High Sun). Appearing to have a natural gift for form and proportion, his pieces soon attracted the attention of galleries and collectors...

A fine, large and very rare eight sided documentary vase (with fitted wood stand) - decorated in Chinese scholar's taste and bearing two poems. The first, small poem on the neck of the vase, describes the under glaze blue painted picture on the reverse side. Roughly translated - "Fisherman looks across riverbank - there are Huang Yang trees. There are three roads leading home and he carries a 'dan' (two baskets with carrying yoke). He is wearing a raincoat and hat and it is raining - he sees a fa...
