Chinese export silver cocktail shaker, ca 1900. Tapering cup. Cover has curved shoulders and cylindrical neck with cap and built-in strainer. Repousse chrysanthemums on stippled ground. Cover sides have engraved bands and dense slash lines. Armorial frame vacant as is cap top. Hallmarked with Chinese characters and letters HC for Hung Chong, who was active in Shanghai and Canton. Very good condition.

The figure represents Zhongli Quan - a Chinese mythological figure and one of the Eight Immortals in the Taoist pantheon. His attribute is a large fan which can resurrect the dead and transform stones into silver or gold. Very nice potting, wonderful face, delicate use of colors.
