Fantastic kogo, box for keeping incense, in the shape of a slightly abstracted wish-granting hoju jewel. Brown stoneware with typical white inclusions, greenish brown ash glaze on top. Shigaraki or Iga stone ware. Japan, early to mid Edo period, 17th-18thcentury.

H 2 x L 2.25 x W 2 inches

Minimal traces of usage commensurate with age. All in all excellent condition

Comes with kiri-wood tomobako with inscription.

A small decorative dish or a wide bowl. Light colored ceramic with cream-colored glaze with fine crackle. On top of the glaze in moriage technique in many colors, white and gold is the images of a lohan with a feather fan, a sage and a boy in a Chinese garden setting with crane, peaches of immortality, hand scrolls, a vase with a fan and peach blossoms, small birds.
The outside decorated with bands of flowers, and scrolling lines, imitating art nouveau decorative bands.

A rare finely carved cylindrical bamboo incense box depicting Scholars amongst rocks and pine trees in a mountain landscape. This item was made in China in the late Qing period - the characters carved into the top read "Qing Guangxu Nian Zhi" which translates as "Made in the Guangxu reign Qing dynasty" (1875-1908). Condition - one 2cm age related crack at the top - otherwise excellent with no damages or losses and no repairs or restoration. 22.7cm (8.8inches) high.
