Japanese Sumida pottery brush washer modeled as an old log with a monkey family around it, all wearing short jackets, mother eating a peach. Earthenware studio pottery was made in Sumida river area near Tokyo, produced primarily for export from the late 19th Century through the early 20th century. Very nicely modeled, beautifully glazed log, faces and jackets, wonderful patina, oval potter’s stamp on the bottom. Nice object for a scholar’s desk. Length 7 inches, height 4 1/8 inches.
