19th century lacquered and inlaid boxwood netsuke of a sculptor awed by his own work as he gazes up on a huge sculpture of Zen Buddhism patriarch Daruma yawning and stretching after 9 years of continuous meditation. Judging by a paint brush by the right arm of Daruma, the sculptor must have just ended painting the robe of the figure.
