Confirmed unsigned Chanel necklace circa 1960 or 1970; I recently saw this same necklace with a Chanel hang tag with just the name in block lettering (no
season numbers or copyright symbols), which dates it to 1970 or prior. I had previously listed this necklace as a probable Chanel. Designed in the Indian
moghul style which was one of Chanel's main influences, with red and green Gripoix poured glass beads simulating carved rubies and emeralds, and dark
goldtone beaded drops and term...
Fine Chinese Western Han Dynasty Painted Pottery Ding Tripod
This pottery tripod vessel, or "ding", was made during the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 8). It is made from a grey pottery, relatively highly-fired, both body and cover having a distinct ring when tapped. The body stands on three sturdy integral feet. On opposite sides at the waist are two square-cut handles. The top of the cover has a protruding ring that allows it to be turned upside-down and used as a bowl. Both cover and bo...

This pottery jar was made over 4,000 years ago during the Machang Phase (c. 2300 - 2000 BC) of the Majiayao culture, also known as the Gansu-Yangshao culture, from present day Gansu or Qinghai province. It is made from a pale yellowish-brown pottery and is fairly highly-fired that has undoubtedly contributed greatly to its survival in such good condition. Rare Chinese Song / Yuan Dynasty Buddhist Pottery Zodiac Jar
This interesting pottery jar was made during the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279), or possibly the Yuan Dynasty (AD 1279 - 1368) and has been been excavated from a Buddhist site in Yunnan province. It is made from a fairly high-fired grey pottery and is quite wide compared to other known similar examples. The yellowish-brown surface colour is due to the iron-rich Yunnan soil.
Strips of clay have been applied to the outer wall to f...

The flat base remains unglazed, revealing the sandy-coloured stoneware body.

Very Rare Chinese Song Dynasty Jar with Stand & Cover (Dragon Chasing Pearl)
This stoneware jar was made during the Song Dynasty (AD 960 -1279). We have had a few similar "dragon" jars over the years but it is extremely rare to see such a jar with not only a cover, but a cut-out bowl in which it stands. We have known that such items existed as there is one illustrated in a Chinese museum book (see above for reference).
Such jars as this with an applied dragon around its shoulder are f...
