Japanese Suzuribako

Made of plastic the casing, dated Showa Period Great Condition- as pictured

Japanese suzuribako is also called as inkstone. Mostly made of lacquer, but this one is made of plastic which has a contemporary style. Traditionally suzuribako is use to hold writing implements. Historically, the boxes were associated with calligraphy, and as such they were made using high-quality materials designed to safeguard porcelain inkstones (suzuri) from harm.

Beautiful Meiji-era shakudo locket with rose gold mount and chain. Locket is rectangular and hinged with gold and silver applied to shakudo ground. (Shakudo is a lacquer-shaded alloy.)
