Measuring just 4.5" wide x 5.5" long, this very rarely found, circa 1940's, metal mechanical toy features the beloved Golliwogg character!

Unmarked, this toy is in very good condition with tiny superficial surface scratches wherever metal rubs metal during toy movement. To operate the toy, one simply squeezes the metal lever on the back, which causes the clown to hit poor Golly on the head with a mallet!

A brief history of the Golliwog doll: The Golliwog is based on a Black minstrel doll tha...

Stonegate Antiques
$1,950.00
Measuring 39.75 inches long x 17.50 inches high, this untouched, all-original, single-sided, porcelain, circa 1930-40s sign is an extraordinarily RARE piece of Black American history-- an artifact of the "Jim Crow" era when segregation of the African American race was unfortunately, most commonplace.

The origin of this sign is unknown, but given its very substantial size and weight, it likely once hung as a directional sign in a major bus or railroad station, designating the "WHITES ONLY" are...

CO OF MASS." appear in the tiniest letters below the words "Peanut Butter" on one side of th...

The Byōbu "wind wall" are Japanese screens made up of 4 to 6 panels (the latter being the most common). They serve as partitions or decor for dances in the ceremonial context. They are usually adorned with seasonal flora and fauna, painted in gouache on a gold leaf background. The large gold "solids" highlight the quiet strength of decorative elements such as cypresses (Paine 1981) which seem to emerge from the mist invoking a symbolism. The convention of these "floating clouds" is even older ...

Offered is a wonderful piece of circa 1940's, Lebanon, Tennessee, drug store history!

Researching the drug store's history was fascinating as the same family operated it for over 50 years! The years spanning from its 1912 opening through the 1950s appeared to be the drug store's heyday as it served as a popular community gathering place catering to local servicemen and...
