Early Showa period (1930s) Aki-Shino (red Shino) ware ceramic sake cup. Shino ware originated in the ancient Japanese province of Mino (Gifu prefecture) in the 16th century, and were the first high fired ceramics in Japan. They are usually tea ceremony items, and were not made for export. Beautiful rich glaze with wonderful play of colors ranging from red to brown to gray. Wonderful potting, the foot shows stoneware body, in great condition. Diameter 2 1/2 inches, height 1 13/16 inches.
