A Japanese Hirado underglaze blue porcelain Mizusashi (water jar) of "barrel" form with a flat, circular cover bearing a spherical knop. The jar is decorated with two kirin galloping across stylized waves. The mouth and the cover bear bands of formalized, archaistic dragons and dots with the recessed foot surrounded by a band of stylized lotus flowers. Dates Late Meiji Period (1880-1900). Measures 8 inches high. 6.5" diameter. In excellent condition.

Measuring just 2.25 inches in height (minus the hair!!), this extremely RARE, clear glass Golliwogg Perfume Bottle was sold by VIGNY Perfumeries of Paris, France in the 1920’s. The clear glass perfume was the second version of the Vigny “Le Golliwogg” perfume produced from the 1920’s into the 1930’s. A fine and very rare bat-shaped porcelain censer with what are apparently bat head feet. We believe that there would originally have been a wood cover secured into the two outer holes and that the incense smoke would have escaped through the three central holes.

This item was made in China for the domestic market as a temple or home alter piece in the early 18th Century, probably during the reign of the Kangxi emperor (1662-1722).

Condition - excellent - no damages and no restoration.
