Superb and extremely rare silverplated cocktail shaker in the "Ile de France" pattern by Meriden Britannia Plate Co. This is one of the most desirable of the high style Art Deco shakers. The ocean liner "Ile de France" was launched in 1926--not as the largest ship afloat, but intentionally as the most elegant ship in the world. This shaker was intended to celebrate that achievement and took its streamlined design elements from the ship itself. The pour spout protrudes from the side of the sh...

Condition of this fabulous piece is quite fine. The interior of the globe and finial note some faint, scattered, age-related haziness. While the large globe has abs...

From a well-known series entitled “Chōtō” (Listening to the Waves) this large contoured vase features a sandy glaze that the sculptor claims is an expression of the features of the landscape where he grew up.

Born in the port city of Shimoda, Sakiyama studied art in Osaka and then later went on to open his own kiln that he named “Hidaka” (High Sun). Appearing to have a natural gift for form and proportion, his pieces soon attracted the attention of galleries and collectors...

I have never seen another combination case quite like this one. It is enameled in a delicate peach color with white and chrome trim in a very art deco design. It is 5 3/4" x 2 1/4" and the longer side is for cigarettes, and the shorter one is a compact that still has powder and a mirror, but no powder puff. Both sides are hinged, and the piece is thin, I suppose so that it would fit into a lady's purse. It was found in an old chamois leather case that may or may not be original to the piece....

Necklaces like these are getting harder and harder to find. That isn't too hard to understand because most people who have them are reluctant to part with them. This necklace is 15 1/2" long with a spring ring clasp. Around the from is an intricate pattern of Bohemian garnets, sometimes called raspberry garnets because of their intense color. Many of these come from Victorian era, but I believe that this one is later, likely from the early 1930s. "The metal is gilded as were many of these n...
