An old ghurra showing a seating protector beating the drum , such design evokes the shamanic influence. The shaman is surmounted by a ram. Super black soot patina, Obvious signs a important use. H 25 cm , the protector is 13 cm height.

This old Japanese Noh theater mask has the expressive face of an old man. The mask is carved from paulownia wood and dates to middle Edo period, around 1750. The patina is wonderful.

A very rare anthropomorphic chain model ghurra showing a seated ancestor which seems to be in meditation position, (note a local repair at the arm which has been re-fixed). Superb encrusted hard patina. The carving is monoxyl (no joins) and shows various mythic animals , elephant, deer, cow n dog and peacock. Total height is 33 cm, and 6 x 6 cm. An Art Deco bakelite and celluloid snake upper arm bracelet circa 1920s. This genuine period survivor measures 3" x 2-7/8" across the interior and the snake's heads are 5/16" across and both have cobalt blue glass rhinestone eyes. Zelkova(keyaki) wood jizai, or pothook. This rather straight type is called Ebisu, after the shape of Ebisu’s hat. These hangers were suspended with a rope from a heavy roof beam, above the open hearth. From the hanger an adjustable hook was hung that held the kettle. Black lacquered zelkova wood.

This extremely rare pottery model was made during the early Northern Wei Dynasty (AD 386 - 534). It is a mythical creature, its body covered in scales and with six legs. The creature stands with its head down and mouth open, showing a full set of teeth. Its purpose would have been to ward off evil spirits.
