On a black lacquer ground slightly raised decoration showing a landscape with rockwork and trees in different gold lacquer techniques. A small Japanese mimikuchi shaped vase, with spiral design, used to hold the burn incense sticks. The burner is about 3 7/8" tall x 4" in diameter and dates to the turn of the Century. The condition is excellent/perfect, and it has been polished. The asking price includes shipping within the USA.

A fine and very rare bat-shaped porcelain censer with what are apparently bat head feet. We believe that there would originally have been a wood cover secured into the two outer holes and that the incense smoke would have escaped through the three central holes.

This item was made in China for the domestic market as a temple or home alter piece in the early 18th Century, probably during the reign of the Kangxi emperor (1662-1722).

This tripod censer is raised on three animal-masked feet that support its large, rounded body. The rim is decorated with a key fret design, and the body has ten lappets composed of stylized mask and key fret designs all in low relief. It retains its original brown patina overall with a deep greenish gray interior from use. Good condition.

Beautiful Japanese Wajima lacquer stand with gold maki-e painting on a nashi-ji (pear skin) background. The designs are scrolling vines with stylized chrysanthemums and paulonias, which are the crests of the emperor and empress. The style of sparkling nashiji lacquer work and the theme were popular in the Taisho period (1912-1926) to the beginning of the Showa era, sometime after the return of the throne to the emperor.
