This is a very fine and rare 18th or 19th century white jade sutra plaque. It was made of a very fine piece of mutton fat white jade of an even and very pale milky white tone. It was skilfully carved in intaglio and gilt with the Chinese version of Prajnaparamita Hridaya Sutra, the Heart Sutra on both sides translated by the famous Tang dynasty monk, Xuanzang. A Chinese mutton fat nephrite jade pendant or toggle of Budai measuring about 2 1/2" long and weighing 86g. While primarily white in color, the jade has a few random russet sections on the side and rear, and evinces under strong light a faint subtle green tint. A finely carved Chinese jade recumbent pig in a nearly uniform spinach green color with a particularly expressive face indicating most likely a 20th C. origin. The details in the mouth, tongue, teeth, hooves, and ears are very fine. Mass is 365.6 grams, 3 3/4" l, specific gravity 2.90-2.93, and impervious to steel blades, indicative of nephrite jade.

The ground textile is a dark woolen flannel "inlaid" with pieces of colored fabric and embroidered in silk yarn in different colors. The embroideries from Rasht in Gilan Province were made by professional male embroiderers. Cotton lining, silk fringes. Dimension: diameter (without fringes): 142 cm, fringes: c. 8.5 cm long. Condition: fine, little faded, minimally stained.
A rare finely carved cylindrical bamboo incense box depicting Scholars amongst rocks and pine trees in a mountain landscape. This item was made in China in the late Qing period - the characters carved into the top read "Qing Guangxu Nian Zhi" which translates as "Made in the Guangxu reign Qing dynasty" (1875-1908). Condition - one 2cm age related crack at the top - otherwise excellent with no damages or losses and no repairs or restoration. 22.7cm (8.8inches) high.
A fine and rare 19th century Japanese cloisonne bi-fold table screen in the Kyoto school of Namikawa, depicting a ho bird and dragon. The finely coiled wiring is gilded, as are the back panels of the screen. Each cloisonne panel is wood framed, joined with hinges of silver. Fully opened, the screen measures 8" high and 9" wide.
Condition: Quite fine, with only wear commensurate with age.
