Exquisite Barovier bowl and pestle set profusely filled with an aventurine gold spiral pattern on the interior with an exterior thread of blue/green lattimo. The rim of the bowl has a scissor cut which lends a dramatic modern aesthetic to the form. It is unusual to find these sets together. This one is a beauty! It is 7"x2"h, in excellent condition, unmarked, but clearly Barovier.

Late Ming Dynasty, 1500s

This deep bowl is stoutly potted, being rather heavy toward the base, with the wall thinning gradually to the slightly flaring rim. It rests on a tall, thick footring, with a deep base that is glazed down to the dense, white porcelain paste that is exposed with some kiln grit adhering. The design in underglaze cobalt blue is of chrysanthemums, grasses and three stylized bats. The interior has a broad unglazed ring around the bottom to allow it to be stacked during ...

The stand and bowl of this vessel were cast separately and permanently joined at the time of production. The lid is topped with a lingzhi fungus. The lingzhi is cast as part of the lid, and has some areas of orange-ish patina. The interior of the stand is dark gray with some verdigris and the bowl interior is also a grayish tone. This is a great example of Japanese Satsuma artistry. Ths bowl was made and signed by Hankinzan. The bowl measures 5 inches across. It is an exceptional piece with extremely fine work. There are hundreds of detailed birds all with overglaze enamels. I believe it was made with the thicker mercury fired gold. While this bowl looks nearly perfect, it has about a 1 inch line that goes part way down one side that is very hard to see with out magnification. May also have a tiny fill or factory repair ...
