Five late 19th to early 20th century Japanese ceramic netsuke representing theatrical masks of (left to right): Hotei, Bishamon, Jurojin, O-Behimi and demon Buaku. Crisp detailing, wonderful faces, some enamel highlights, very pleasant wear and patina. Except for Hotei all are impressed with seal ONKO on the back - the pieces were made by a member of the Shimizu family producing Onko wares in Akasaka, Gifu Prefecture, most probably by Shimizu Sekisen I.
