Large Antique, 19th century, Islamic Malay silver bowl with rounded body rising from a flaring foot. Decorated around the body with repoussé and hand chiseled panels within a floral and checkered pattern, the rim adorned with a spiraling band and another of scrolling foliated pattern. The foot engraved with zigzag motive ornament. The magnificent Islamic silversmith art work is made of two separate components, the rounded body is hand hammered from one piece of flat silver sheet, and the flaring foot was made separately and soldered to the bowl.
By the trading over centuries with other Muslim states, the Malaysian Islamic art has been influenced by Arabian, Moghul, Persian and Ottoman art and designee, which can be seen in the ornamentation of this bowl.
