Very Rare, Authentic Antique, 18th century circa 1729 A.D. Polish - Saxon officer sword of the Janissary, Royal Guard of Polish King Augustus II, the Strong. A single edged blade with broad fullers on both sides, double-edged for the last third of the blade. The spine of the blade slight concavity. The cipher "AR" under a crown (Augustus Rex) z (King of Poland August II. 1697 - 1733) is etched on the obverse sides. A massive two-piece cast brass hilt of characteristic Karabela form cast in low relief with chevrons, downturned quillons with more raised ciphers on the languets on each side. 

MEASUREMENTS:

Overall length: 78.7 cm (30.98 inches)

Length of the blade: 64.2 cm (25.28 inches) Width of the blade at the widest point: 3.6 cm (1.42 inches)

Thickness of the blade spine: 10 mm (0.39 inches) 

CONDITION: Showing the age and usage, silver pleating on the hilt completely worn out, blade pitted with abrasions, with some, corroded through, small holes on middle of the lover part of the grove, cipher AR worn, but overall complete and sound. All of this is an aspect from a used antique combat sword that is over 288 years old.

Some replicas of this type Janissary swords were made in the late German imperial Kaiser period of time for the commemorative parade. 

This is an example of a rare authentic antique, 18th century, circa 1729 A.D. Polish -Saxon Janissary corps officer sword and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. This type of the swords was made in the two versions: with brass hilt for the soldiers and with the silver-plated hilt for the officers. This is an officer version, and the traces of the silver plating are visible in the cross- guard terminals . 

In 1729, Colonel Christop von Unruh established a Janissary corps, which was mainly composed of Poles and Hungarians. dissolved in 1731.
