Each boss is composed of many individual elements in fine filigree wire work, twisted and soldered of excellent precision, with a pattern of scrolling foliate, leaves, and flower heads set with faux gemstones on raised settings, and adorned with crossed gilt straps.
The hook is hallmarked with two illegibly stamps.
These types of fine, filigree buckles were sewn onto the fabric of a belt or cloak. Since the fine silver filigree work was time-consuming and, therefore, expensive, they showed the wealth and social status of the owner.
This silver filigree buckle is an important example of Armenian goldsmith art and was custom-made for a wealthy Armenian aristocrat.
