Antique 18th century Spanish cast bronze naval signal - saluting cannon Mortar (Thunder Mug) of a typical design with a handle.

A tapered two-stage barrel, with a reinforcing ring swelling towards the muzzle, with a pronounced, molded, flared muzzle. It rests on a prominent turned round (breech) base with a pan raised and a touch-hole (vent).

This type of mortar cannon, "Thunder Mug," was used on ships in the 17th and 18th centuries to salute and signal the port of their arrival.

MEASUREMENTS:

Height: 14.5 cm (5.51 inches). Width at the widest point including handle and the pan: 14 cm (5.51 inches). Diameter of the base: 12 cm (4.72 inches). Diameter of the bore: 21 mm (0.83 inches). Depth of the bore: 10 cm (5.51 inches).

CONDITION: In its original untouched condition, with old patina showing the age and heavy usage.

WEIGHT: Approximately 6 kg (13 Pound).
