This type of the spoons ware made in Russia in the 18th century from Burr-Maple, Boxwood, and other wood as a spoon for actual use as cutlery. During the 19th -20th century when metal spoons became widely available for the common people, traditional Russian wooden spoons were still being made in Russia strictly as decorative Russian folk art adorned with silver Cloisonne Enamel or colorful lacquered adornment. Wooden spoons in this style were widely used in the 15th-17th century throughout eastern and western Europe along with the silver and pewter spoons.

The real 18th century Russian wooden spoons are very rare, and they are almost impossible to acquire.
