A large antique 19th century Indian Hindu temple puja bell or Ghanta the janus handle with figures of the monkey God Hanuman and Garuda. The bowl engraved with two elephants and zebu bull and floral pattern and scrolls.
CONDITION: Showing age and usage, handle slightly bent the figures appear to be well worn from ritual use and handling with nice old patina. In working order - sounds good!
MEASUREMENTS:
Height: 18.5 cm (7.28 inches). Width: 10 cm (3.94 inches).
The Bells play in an important role in anu puja (worship), especially when offering aarati (waving a camphor or oil lamp before the deity to ward off evil); the worshipper rings the bell with the right hand, holding the lamp in the left hand.
