Antique, late 15th century A.D. (9th century AH) Timurid medieval Islamic from Central Asia, Blue and White, ceramic dish modeled after a medieval Ming Dynasty Blue and White dish, of a deep round form, on a short foot, with an everted, cusped rim.

The interior is painted underglaze in cobalt blue on an off-white ground with seven stylized flower heads interspersed by abstract vegetal motifs, and the rim is painted with sketchily scrolling designs and dotted motifs.

The foot was pierced during the making process to hang the vessel on the wall because dishes of this type were expensive and only available to the Timurid elite.

Blue and white Timurid pottery is derived from an early Ming blue and white prototype, either from the reign of the Hongwu Emperor (1368-99) or the Xuande Emperor (1426-35). Other Timurid works, including jade ceramic and metalwork, were also influenced by Chinese Ming dynasty artwork.

MEASUREMENTS:

Diameter: 26.7 cm (10.51 inches).

Height: 6.5 cm (2.56 inches).

CONDITION: overall, in good condition. However, I believe that a small part of the rim glaze has an old restoration that is invisible to the eye.

The price realized 10 years ago was GBP 3,250. when the pound sterling had a high value of exchange rate).
