Antique circa 1800 AD Mediterranean Spanish dagger stiletto manufactured in Albacete, Spain. Barrel form polished horn grip is inlaid with brass serpentine motifs and flanked by pierced and banded conical brass mounts. Sturdy elongated leaf-shaped blade with medial ridge, thick iron cross guard of elongated diamond shape.

The original wooden scabbard is bound in dark green velvet trimmed at the middle with a red cord, and the mouth of the scabbard is mounted with a banded brass locket I with a frog stud.

CONDITION: For a dagger that is over 200 years old, this piece is in very good condition with an old patina. The velvet fabric, which was originally dark green, has faded over time to a greenish-brown.

Overall length with the scabbard: 29 cm (11.42 inches).

Overnight without the scabbard: 28 cm (11.02 inches).

For a nearly identical example, please see “Armas Blancas en España” by Rafael Ocete Rubio, pl.11.

These daggers are particularly associated with the Spanish Resistance against the French Napoleonic armies who occupied Spain from 1808 to 1814.
