A rare and unusually large souvenir piece of wood cut from a beam from the painted chamber which was one of the oldest parts of the original Palace of Westminster, destroyed by the Great Fire of 1834. This piece of oak forms the back of a mahogany coin collector's cabinet which was made circa 1835-1850. The writing on this ancient wood panel reads: "The Oak forming this cabinet is part of a Beam removed from under the floor of the Painted Chamber (being part of the wood used in the original building in the reign of Edward the Confessor) and removed after the fire of Thursday October 16th, 1834 by permission of the Honorable Commissioner .. of His Majesty's Woods & Forests by ...." We have not deciphered the name and signature at the bottom and we have not yet identified the wax seal (bottom left). Condition: the panel is split in two vertically and there are very old horizontal cracks visible top left. The panel is 29.2 cm (11.5 inches) high; 24.1cm (9.5 inches) high. The mahogany cabinet is heavy and is 33 cm (13 inches) high; 31.8cm (12.5 inches) wide and 30.5cm (12 inches) deep According to the official parliament website (www.parliament.uk) "In the 13th century King Henry III .. built .. the Painted Chamber as a private apartment on foundations in parallel to the present-day St Stephen's Hall, and it is said that St Edward the Confessor had died in a room which previously occupied the site." "The room was as grand and as colourful as the King (Henry III) and his craftsmen could make it. It was long and narrow, and housed a canopied state bed at one end. "The destruction of the Painted Chamber was perhaps the greatest artistic loss of the fire that ravaged Parliament in 1834. A rare and very finely enamelled 18th Century Wucai Dragon and Phoenix Bowl - Qianlong mark and of the period (1736-1795).

Condition - there are three rim chips, three long hairline cracks and one short under the glaze hairline (please view enlargements); there has been no restoration.

A small finely carved pale green and 'spinach' jadeite boulder depicting two carp on each side leaping amongst waves and lotus plants.

This item was carved in China probably for the scholar's table, during the late 18th or 19th Century.

Condition: excellent - no damages or losses.

A rare bamboo form porcelain brush pot with finely moulded bamboo decoration coated with a bright and vibrant turquoise glaze.

This brush pot / bitong was made in China early in the 18th Century during the reign of the Kangxi or Yongzheng emperor, circa 1700 - 1730. Although more commonly associated with middle easter ceramics turquoise glazes have been found in China since the Tang dynasty. Turquoise glazes have been used on imperial porcelain from the Ming Xuande reign and were in particular favour with the Kangxi,Yongzheng and Qianlong emperors.

This item is complete with its early 19th Century (probably French) custom made fitted Ormolu Gilt Bronze stand.

There is a very similar smaller "bamboo stem" Brush Pot illustrated in "The Chinese Porcelain Collection of Marie Vergottis" cataloged by John Ayers, Former Keeper of the Far Eastern Department of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.

Condition: excellent. No damages and no restoration.

18世纪 松石绿釉笔筒（带镀金座） 1700-1730

竹节形瓷笔筒，表面施有松石绿（孔雀蓝）釉，色彩鲜亮。笔筒作于18世纪清康熙或雍正年间。

虽然松石绿釉在西方一般会跟中东的陶瓷联系在一起，但其实早在中国唐朝就已出现。松石绿釉曾用于明宣德时期的官窑器上，在清康雍乾时期特别受皇帝的青睐。

A densely patterned delicately potted early white porcelain dish decorated with two impressed phoenix, poeny flower,lotus and (unusually) with a flying swan to the centre.

This item was made in the Ding kilns, Hebei province, northern China during the Jin Dynasty (AD 1115- 1234).

Condition: excellent - with no damages and no restoration.

18'3 cm / 7.2 inches diameter.

A fine and very rare bat-shaped porcelain censer with what are apparently bat head feet. We believe that there would originally have been a wood cover secured into the two outer holes and that the incense smoke would have escaped through the three central holes.

This item was made in China for the domestic market as a temple or home alter piece in the early 18th Century, probably during the reign of the Kangxi emperor (1662-1722).

Condition - excellent - no damages and no restoration.

A small finely carved amber and translucent white coloured soapstone figure group depicting the Daoist Immortal Liu Hai 劉海 and, unusually, a Pixiu.

This item was probably made for the Scholar's table as a tactile handling object in the 17th or early 18th Century, possibly during the reign of the Kangxi emperor (1662 - 1722).

Condition: the tip of the plantain leaf base is broken off but the figure group is fully intact. There are no further damages and there have been no repairs or restoration.

清初 寿山石雕刘海和貔貅

A rare Chinese bronze (copper tin alloy) paperweight very finely modelled and cast in the auspicious form of a mythical horned Qilin.

This item was made in China for the scholar's table, in the Transitional Period probably during the reign of the Shunzhi emperor (1644 to 1661).

A large and very rare beaker shaped Chinese porcelain vase painted with scenes in cartouches delicately enamelled in "mandarin" palette, and reserved on elaborate gilt scroll ground. This item was made in China for export to Europe late in the reign of the Qianlong emperor (1736-1795).

Condition - this vase has been broken in a number of places and has had extensive professional old restoration. .

42.5 cm (16.7 inches) high; 23cm (9 inches) diameter at rim. Weight 2.8kg (6.17lb).

A white porcelain bowl with under glaze incised (anhua） decoration depicting two dragons amongst stylized clouds and flames. On the base, in underglaze blue, is the six character reign mark of the Guangxu Emperor (1875-1908). Condition: there is a small shallow 0.5cm chip to the inside of the rim and much of the over glaze silver decoration is worn away. A fine,very well potted, 17/18th Century baluster shaped vase (without cover) well painted in shades of underglaze blue, depicting prunus blossom against a "cracked ice" ground.

This item was made during the reign of the Kangxi emperor (1662 - 1722).

Condition - excellent. There is a possibility that the rim may have been reduced and there is an extemely faint (glaze only) crack to the base. No chips, no restoration

A rare bronze (copper tin alloy) incense tool holder, very finely cast in archaised Song Dynasty style. The square form neck is decorated alternately with Lingzhi fungus and stylized Acanthus leaves. Both are traditionally associated with resilience, good health and long life.

This item was made for the Chinese Scholar's Table in the 17th Century in the "Transitional Period" during the late Ming or early Qing Dynasties.

Condition: minor bumps and excellent old patination. No repairs and no losses.

A large and heavy, partially gilded, Mandalay style marble Buddha finely carved in 19th Century Burma (Myanmar). A rare finely decorated 'ogee' shaped 'famille rose' bowl. This item carries the iron red seal mark of the Tongzhi Emperor (1862-1874) and was made during his reign (1862-1874). There is wear to the gilding on the rim. No damages and no restoration. 2.3 inches (5.7cm) High 5.3 inches (13.8cm) Diameter.

精美19世纪粉彩花鸟纹折腰碗-同治款及其时期
稀有的精美粉彩折腰碗，碗底有铁红釉“大清同治年制“六字篆书款，系同治时期（1862-1874）出品。

An old and larger than average soft wood Dayak war shield painted with anthropomorphic figures and faces in red, black and white pigment. This item was made during either the 19th or very early 20th Century. Condition: very used; un-restored and un-repainted. There is much wear to the surface and edges and the decoration appears "faded". There is a very old replacement section of wood to the bottom left which appears to have been "cannibalised" from another old shield. Whilst most of the original human hair decoration is missing, on close examination a few remaining hairs can be found adhered to some of the smeared old resin glue. 157cm (61.75 inches) high; 29.5cm (11.5 inches) wide.

A small bronze incense burner with four lion mask cabriole legs and twin Chilong dragon handles gripping a key fret decorated rim. The body is cast with a broad band of scrolling lotus. This item was made in China in the 17th Century during the late Ming or early Qing dynasty.

Condition: very good with antique carved hardwood (probably zitan) stand and carved pierced cover (minus its finial)

A rare, very finely painted, porcelain jar depicting five Buddhistic lions at play. This item was made in China during the reign of the Guangxu Emperor (1875-1908). Condition - excellent and no restoration. 13cm (5.1 inches) high.

A rare 18th/19th Century carved agate snuff bottle with, possibly later, silver and rose quartz stopper. On the stopper is inscribed the Shanghai silversmiths "Wen Yuan" who are recorded as having traded from the Jiaqing (1796-1820) reign through until the Republic period (1912- 1949). Condition - excellent - there is a shallow chip on top, next to the mouth (please view enlargement 11) no further damages and no restoration. 5cm (2inches) high; 4.8cm (1.9 inches) wide.

A very rare bronze Brush Washer or possibly a Bitian ("brush lick") cast in the form of a double gourd with scrolling vine decoration. This was made in China, for the Scholar's table in the Ming dynasty during the 16th or early 17th Century.

We acquired this item as part of the collection of a British architect who was born in China and lived in Shanghai until 1931.

Condition - excellent - there is visible surface wear, consistent with many years of use, but no damages or losses and no repairs.

A pair of unusual late 19th Century relief moulded cylindrical shaped hat stands painted with panels depicting gentlemen with attendants in a garden landscape, the borders are decorated with Buddhistic precious objects and flower sprays reserved against a yellow ground. On the base is the four character iron red seal mark of the Guangxu emperor (1875-1908). These are probably Nyonya wares, made for export to the Malaysian "Straits Chinese" community . Condition - good - there are small rim chips and frits and there is a light hairline to the body of one vase /hat stand (please view enlargement 10); no further damages and no restoration. 27.8cm (10.9 inches) high; 10cm (4 inches) diameter. A charming pastel portrait by Dorothy Colles which was commisioned for a "Trufood" advertizing poster. Dorothy Colles (1917-2003) was, according to an obituary in the Independent newspaper,"gifted in portraits of children". She has exhibited through the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of Portrait Painting. There is a water 'splash' above the head of the boy which we have not attempted to restore. Otherwise excellent condition. The picture 19.5 inches by 17.3 inches (49.5cm by 44cm)

A very large,well potted, and finely decorated Satsuma earthenware vase made in Japan during the Meiji period (1868-1911). The foot-rim carries an impressed seal mark which reads - "Kozan". Condition - excellent - no damages and no restoration. 47cm (18.5 inches) high; 6.1kg (13.5lb) weight

A rare well potted jar with fine porcelain body and very well painted, in under glaze blue, depicting two flying phoenix amongst scrolling foliage. The base carries the six character reign mark of the Kangxi emperor (1662-1722) but this item was made later, in the 19th Century, probably circa 1800-1850 during the reign of either the Jiaqing or the Daoguang emperor. A charming, signed, pastel portrait by Dorothy Colles (1917-2003) who was (according to an obituary published in the Independent newspaper) "gifted in portraits of children". This picture was drawn circa 1963 (please see our other Colles picture) and was a commissioned piece for an advertising poster. Dorothy Colles has exhibited through the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of Portrait Painting. Condition - excellent. The picture 20 inches by 17.7 inches (51cm x 45cm). The original frame - 23.8 inches by 21.7 inches (60cm x 55cm).

A pair of pea pods with vine leaves finely carved in pale green nephrite jade made in China during the 18th or 19th Century. Condition: excellent - no damages. 5.8cm (2.25 inches) long. 清代 青玉豆荚形佩 品相：完好，无损伤。 长5.8厘米。

A very rare finely painted porcelain teapot decorated on each side with a scene depicting a scholar in a garden landscape. This item was made in China in the early 18th Century, probably during the reign of the Yongzheng emperor (1723-1735) . Condition - there is an 18th Century ( European) replacement handle; there is a chip to the spout and one to the cover (see enlargements 7and 8); there is a chip to the foot rim and an associated crack which runs across the base and 5cm up one side (please view enlargements 1,9 and 10).For many additional enlargements, please view 1tem #1528 in our partially constructed Liverpool shop website at 69aliverpool.co.uk . 11cm (4.3inches) high; 17.5cm (6.9inches) long.

品相：原壶把已不在，所替代的为一18世纪（欧洲）金属制藤条编织包覆的壶把；壶嘴和壶盖各有一磕口（见图7和图8）；圈足处有一磕口及与其相连的冲缝，冲缝经过壶底在另一边向上延伸5厘米（见图1、图9和图10）。如有需要，可提供更多照片。高11厘米，长17.5厘米。

A rare early (female) Buddhist Guardian Lion painted with unevenly distributed crackular over glaze turquoise enamel. This item was probably made in China during the 17th or early 18th Century.

Condition: very good - there are many small under glaze firing cracks; there is glaze loss to both eyes and there is 'kiln grit' to the base. No chips or external cracks and no repairs or restoration.

A very rare historically important documentary bamboo brush or pen pot drawn in ink signed 'Juli (July in Dutch) 1943' in the Tjihapit Internment Camp for Dutch Women and Children in the Japanese Occupied Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia).

The "cartoon" style drawings are curiously romanticised - I speculate, either to escape from the well documented brutal reality of camp conditions or it may have been produced, for propaganda purposes, under pressure from their concentration camp commanders, to present a deceptively glamorous image to the outside world.

Condition - very good.

1943年 日军Tjihapit集中营战俘作竹筒

非常少见的具有历史文献意义的竹筒。上面标记1943年7月（荷文）。作者应为Tjihapit集中营中的战俘。Tjihapit集中营是日本占领荷属东印度群岛（现印度尼西亚）时在此设立的荷兰妇女儿童战俘营。卡通形式的画风将战俘营的景象描绘得带有浪漫色彩。我怀疑这样做的原因可能是作者想从意识上逃离集中营条件恶劣的残酷现实，也有可能是集中营的日军为了向外界宣传，逼迫作者把集中营描绘成美好的景象。

A rare 18th Century Liverpool porcelain teapot finely painted with Chinese style "Famille Rose" polychrome enamels. This item was made, circa 1760-1770, by one of two Liverpool makers - either Richard Chaffers & Co (1754-1765) or Phillip Christian (1765-1778) - who consecutively occupied the same factory on Shaws Brow. Condition: there is no cover and there are small chips to the tip of the spout (please view enlargements); otherwise excellent, with no further damages and no repairs or restoration 11cm (4.3inches) high;18cm (7.1inches) long. A late 19th or early 20th Century, possibly Ekoi, carved wood stool made in Cameroon, West Africa. Condition: good - minor losses and wear and an age related crack to the top but no repairs or restoration. 42cm (16.25inches) high; 30cm (11.75inches) diameter.

An 18th Century white glazed porcelain figure of Budai, probably made in the Jingdezhen kilns, Jiangxi province, southern China.Condition - there is chipping to the left sleeve of his robe and a very small chip to the upper lip; no cracks and no restoration. 11.5cm (4.5 inches) high; 14cm (5.5inches) wide.

A small 17th / 18th Century bronze flower vase, with a sinuous dragon curled around its neck, probably made for the scholar's table in China during the reign of the Kangxi Emperor (1662-1722).

Condition: very good - there are very minor surface bumps otherwise no damages or losses and no repairs or restoration.

A sepik river, Papua New Guinea mask consisting of the carapace of a tortoise decorated with cowrie shells, boars tusks and bird of paradise feathers. This item was probably made during the 1970s. Condition - very good - no losses. 9 inches (23cm) High x 7 inches (18cm) wide - excluding feathers.

A finely decorated porcelain box painted with very rich and vibrant famille rose enamels. This item was probably made in China during the early 19th century (circa 1810-1830) either late in the Jiaqing reign or early in the reign of the Daoguang emperor. Condition - there has been a gilded repair to the inside of the cover - no further damages. 8cm (3.2 inches) diameter; 4cm (1.6 inches)high.

A rare pair of Rambervillers Ceramique stoneware vases with characteristic thick metallic lustre glaze and mounted on fitted gilt bronze stands. These items were probably made shorly after the establishment of the Rambervillers pottery, circa 1905-1910, and bear the incised signature of its founder Alphonse Cytere. Condition: excellent - no damages and no repairs or restoration. 26cm (10.25 inches) high.

A turquoise biscuit-glazed stoneware, or possibly porcelain, Okinomo of a tiger made in Japan in the late Edo period (1600-1868). . For a very similarly modeled figure with yellow glaze please view #90 (page 85) in the Oriental Ceramic Society catalogue of their 2009 Exhibition "The World in Monochromes". A rare pair of apple green glazed candle holders designed by William Howson Taylor and made at the Ruskin Pottery works in Smethwick, near Birmingham, West Midlands, UK. Both candlesticks have an impressed 1908 datemark to the base. Condition: excellent - no damages and no repairs. 16cm (6.3 inches) high; 11.5cm (4.5 inches) diameter at the base.

A small biscuit-fired turquoise, 'aubergine' and yellow glazed moulded stoneware figure depicting Wen Chang (文昌王), the Chinese god of culture and literature, seated on an acanthus leaf throne. This item was probably made for a home altar (possibly in Shanxi province) in the 16th or early 17th Century, during the second half of the Ming dynasty. Condition: the head has been broken at the neck and reglued and there are firing losses to the aubergine enamels at the back; there are no further damages and there has been no restoration. 14cm (5.5 inches) high.

A small carved bamboo wood Boy on Buffalo. This rare object was made in China in the Ming dynasty, probably during the 16th or early 17th Century.

Condition: part of the front left hoof is missing and there is an old crack to the Buffalo's left ear; no further losses and there have been no repairs or restoration.

A rare and exceptionally large and imposing 1930s Bourne Denby stoneware vase with styalised art deco cloud decoration. This item is in very good condition with no damages and no restoration. 36cm(14.2 inches)high and 23.5cm(9.3 inches)across at the widest point.

A rare carved ivory figure of a man, wearing a (beaded?) belt with traditional leather apron, made in Sub-Saharan (possibly southern) Africa for sale to European traders or colonists during the late 19th or early 20th Century. A figure of a soldier or guardian figure finely cast in bronze (using the lost wax method) and made in Benin, Nigeria, during the 19th or early 20th Century. Provenance: from an early to mid 20th Century North West of England collection. Condition: there is a production crack running down his back from the left ear to the top of the left leg and part of the item he is holding in his right hand may be missing. 18cm (7 inches) high. A rare attractively carved (bamboo root?)Dyak Hunter's water bottle (with original stopper) made early in the 20th Century.

A good Australian Aboriginal bark painting of a spirit figure. This item was acquired 'second hand' in the UK in the 1990s and was probably painted during the 1980s. Condition there is wear and losses to the paint. 16 inches (41cm) high, 9.5 inches (24cm) wide.

An original and probably unique terracotta blacksmith by Royal Doulton figure modeller - Peggy Davies who, in her early years, was an assistant to Clarice Cliff. This item was probably made circa 1955 - 1960 and carries an incised signature on the base. Condition - the hammer is missing from the right hand as is a piece of the iron held in his left hand. There are surface marks which we have not tried to clean. There are no cracks and no restoration. Height - 24cm (9.5 inches).

A very finely painted small Satsuma earthenware koro (incense burner) made in Japan during the Meiji period (1868 - 1911). The base is signed 'Kushizan' or 'Kushiyama'. Condition - excellent- no damages and no restoration. 3.25 inches (8.2cm) wide; 2.6 inches(6.5cm)high.

A very rare wood and pewter bar caraffe or decanter with glass thermos liner and Swiss made musical movement which plays "The Blue Danube" by Johann Strauss. This item was designed by Aldo Tura for Macabo of Milan, Northern Italy, and made circa 1958. Condition: excellent - there is a little rusting to the movement which is in good working condition; there are no damages and no repairs or restoration. 32cm (12.6 inches) high.

An "egg and spinach" biscuit-glazed porcelain incense/taper stick holder modelled in the form of a Buddhist guardian lion. These items were made both for the domestic market and for export to Europe circa 1690-1710 during the reign of the Kangxi Emperor. Condition - The upper jaw has been repaired and there has been a very old loss ( possibly during the making) to the top of the incense holder. Height 6.3 inches (16cm).

A well carved, painted, terracotta pipe made by skilled potters of either the Bamessing or the Babungo on the Cameroon Grasfields. Originally, only Kings, chiefs and court officials would have smoked prestige pipes of this kind but the potters were quick to create these pipes for sale to Europeans even before the colonial period. This pipe portrays a dignatory with his elaborate hat (possibly beaded). There are pipe heads of this type on display in the Liverpool World Museum. This item was probably made early in the 20th Century. Condition is very good. There are chips to the headress (please see pictures) and wear to the painted areas. Height 6.75 inches(17cm)

An attractive pair of Yoruba Ibeji twin figures probably carved circa 1900-1930. Condition - there is an age crack to the male figure and half of the base of the female figure is missing. Male figure 7.8 inches (19.8cm) high, Female 7 inches (18cm) high.

A pretty porcelain figure of Guanyin seated on a lotus 'throne' attractively painted with bright famille rose / fencai enamels. This item was probably made in south China during the reign of the Jiaqing Emperor (1796-1820). Condition - there has been extensive restoration and re-painting. The hands have been broken off and replaced. The head has been broken off and re-fixed and there has been another break to the middle. There has also been restoration to the lotus petals. 24cm (9.5inches) high. 18/19世纪粉彩观音像 - 清嘉庆 一件粉彩观音瓷像。作于清嘉庆年间中国南部地区。 品相：多处有修且被重新上色。

A porcelain coffee 'can' / cup painted with a river lanscape in Chinese Imari' style in underglaze blue and overglaze iron red and very unusually made in the form of a small European ale tankard. This very scarce item was made in China for export in the early 18th century, during the reign of either the Kangxi (1662-1722) or Yongzheng (1723-1735) emperors. Condition: excellent there is production "fritting" (glaze loss) to the base ridges but no chips, cracks or restoration. 6.8cm (2.8 inches) high; 5.6cm (2.25 inches) diameter. A hand thrown porcelain vase (originally of Yan Yan or 'phoenix tail' shape) attractively painted in shades of under glaze blue with a prunus blossom pattern against a 'cracked ice' ground.

This item was made in China in the late 17th or early 18th Century during the reign of the Kangxi emperor (1662-1722).

Condition: the top section of this vase is missing and there are minor hairline body cracks (barely visible on the outside) and two small burst bubbles with associated brown discoloration. There has been no repairs or restoration.

A 'bronze' censer (copper zinc alloy with iron impurities) with a six character Ming dynasty Xuande reign mark (1426-1435) to the base but this item was made later, probably during the late Qing dynasty (circa 1890-1910). condition: very good - no damages,losses or repairs. 9cm (3.5 inches)across; 6.3cm (2.5 inches)high. Weight: 260 grams (9 oz).

A large hand, worked silver, ring set with semi-precious stones, made in Tibet during the first half of the 20th Century.
Condition: there is much age surface wear; one of the small turquoise stones is missing and some of the original traditional black wax covering the silver has been recently scratched off.
