A rare and very finely decorated Chinese porcelain vase depicting a flowering peony shrub painted with fencai/famille rose enamels.

On the base is the iron red four character mark "Shen de tang zhi" -the "Hall for the Cultivation of Virtue" which was located in the Old Summer Palace, the Yuanmingyuan, which was destroyed by European troops in 1860. The mark was used during the Kangxi and Daoguang reigns and also during the Republic period (1912-1948) when we believe this vase was made.

Condition - there is a faint star crack (please view enlargements 11 & 12) - no further damages and no restoration.

民国 稀有精美的粉彩牡丹花卉灯笼樽 “慎德堂制”款

一件精美稀有的粉彩牡丹花卉灯笼樽。底有红色“慎德堂制”四字款。慎德堂，位于圆明园，1860年毁于八国联军之手。慎德堂的款识用于康熙和道光年间，但也用于民国时期。我们认为这件为民国时期作品。

品相：瓶身有一处几不可见的分叉裂痕（见图十一和图十二），无其他损伤，无修复。高18厘米，直径9.5厘米。

A large hand, worked silver, ring set with semi-precious stones, made in Tibet during the first half of the 20th Century.
Condition: there is much age surface wear; one of the small turquoise stones is missing and some of the original traditional black wax covering the silver has been recently scratched off.
Weight: 13 grams (0.45 oz).

A small Chinese porcelain vase delicately painted in fencai / famille rose enamels with a scene depicting two ladies on a river bank washing silk. The base carries an iron red four character Qianlong (1736 - 1795) reign mark but this vase was made later, in the early 20th Century, during the Republic period. Condition: excellent - no damages and no restoration. 12.5cm (5 inches) high.

A green and yellow soapstone carving entitled "Lion Building" (located in Shandong province) depicting a scene from the famous Song dynasty legend the The Water Margin ("Shui Hu Zhuan") in which Wu Song fights with and kills Ximen Qing who had previously killed Wu Song's brother so as to 'acquire' his wife. This item is carved in a style which was popular during the Cultural Revolution period (1966-1976) but the subject matter (and the fact that the carving bears the signature of the artist) suggests that it was made a little later, circa 1978 to 1982. 17cm (6.7 inches) high; 12cm (4.7 inches) long at the base.

A rare "famille rose" dragon and phoenix decorated bowl with an inscription dedicating it as a 60th birthday gift from Ma Tao Yu to Xiong Gong - otherwise known as Chen Zhao Ying (1888-1977), who was a senior military leader of the Guo Min-dang (Kuomintang) between the years 1911 to 1932 and who was very close to Sun Zhong-shan and Jiǎng Jièshí (Chiang Kai-shek). From 1944 to 1948, Chen Zhao Ying was the chief of the Jiangxi Province Guo Min-dang Party committee and the minister of Audit for Anhui and Jiangxi Provinces. The bowl, dedicated as an advance birthday gift, is dated Autumn, 1946. Condition - excellent - no damages and no restoration. 12.4cm (4.8 inches) diameter. 1946年 民国 龙凤团纹祝寿碗 一件粉彩龙凤团纹祝寿碗。为一名为马陶余的同乡晚辈送与时任皖赣监察使的陈肇英60大寿之礼。上书：“雄公监察使六秩华诞誌庆”、“寿世寿心”、“乡晚马陶余敬献——丙戌年秋月“。 品相：完好。无损伤，无修复。直径12.4厘米。 注：陈 肇英(1888—1977)，字雄夫，浙江浦江古塘村人。浙江省浦江县中山中学创办人。 辛亥革命时，参加浙联军光复南京战役。1916年，发动浙江独立，反对袁世凯和浙江都督朱瑞，并赴上海见孙中山。1918年，通电拥护西南护法政府，任援 闽浙军第一师中将师长兼前敌总指挥。次年，与蒋介石结为把兄弟。1922年，任以孙中山为非常大总统的护法政府参谋。1926年1月，被选为中国国民党第 二届中央执行委员会候补委员。蒋介石四一二反革命政变后，递补为国民党中央执行委员，连任至第六届。1928年起，任国民政府立法院立法委员，后兼立法院 军事委员会委员长。1934—1942年间，任闽浙监察使。1935年起，兼任中国国民党福建省党部主任委员。1944年，改任中国国民党江西省党部主任 委员、皖赣监察使。1948年任监察院监察委员。1949年6月去台湾，曾兼任中国国民党中央纪律委员会委员、中央评议委员等。著有《八十自述》。

An extremely finely and delicately painted eggshell porcelain bowl by Wang Yijun. The poem on the reverse side reads "Wen ji qi wu xiang feng nian, fu gui rong hua ren ping an. Wang Yijun zuo" which can translate as "Practice the sword while hearing roosters (meaning work hard) and enjoy the affluence of the year; wish people wealth, prosperity and safety. Made by Wang Yijun"The seal mark to the base reads "Jingdezhen Zuo" - Made in Jingdezhen. Wang Yijun (1904 - 1989)was born in Anhui, China. A student of Wu Ai in his early years, he specialised in “flowers and birds” painting. He adapted Lang Shining’s style, with a touch of traditional famille rose technique. His works are usually delicate and vivid, with the elegance of the court school. In 1959 Wang Yijun was conferred the title “Ceramic Artist” by the Jingdezhen Municipal Government. In 2011, the late artist was given the Official award of “China’s Master of Ceramic Art”. A finely crafted pumpkin shaped Zisha clay Yixing stoneware teapot decorated on one side with applied pumpkin vine decoration. This item carries three seal marks which all bear the name Shi Yu Zhen. Condition: excellent - no chips or cracks and no restoration. An "ogee" shaped porcelain bowl decorated with polychrome 'famille rose' enamels depicting two pheasants amongst flowering peony and pomegranate branches and below a band of alternating lotus flowers and the eight Buddhist emblems, the Bajixiang. The seal mark to the base reads "Zhong Hua Min Guo" (Republic of China), dating it to the period 1911-1949. Condition: there are rim frits / chips and there is a light 1cm hairline to the rim ; no further damages and no restoration. 14cm (5.5inches) diameter; 5.9cm (2.3inches) high. An early 20th Century Zisha ("purple clay") teapot with famille rose enamelled decoration depicting the "Three Friends of Winter" - prunus (plumb) blossom, pine tree and bamboo - and also a single bat. This item was made in Yixing, Zhejiang province, China during the Republic period (1911-1949). The maker's or shop seal mark inside the cover reads "Rong Ji"; the elaborate seal mark on the base reads "Fu Kang Ying Kou". Ying Kou is a town in Liao Ning province, north east China. Condition: very good - there are no damages other than a minute chip to the cover (please view enlargement 7) . There has been no restoration. 16.5cm (6.5inches) long; 9cm (3.5inches) high. 宜兴紫砂加彩“岁寒三友”茶壶 约民国时期
一件20世纪初期宜兴紫砂加彩“岁寒三友”茶壶。做于中国民国时期。壶盖内有”荣记“楷书厂店款，底有”福康“”营口“字样。
品相：很好。壶盖口沿有一处极小的磕口（见图），除此之外，无其他损伤。无修复。

A large underglaze blue decorated vase, very finely painted in 18th Century style with bands of plantain leaves, key fret and ruyi above the Bajixiang (eight Buddhist emblems) amongst cloud scrolls. On the base is the six character seal mark of the Qianlong emperor (1736-1795) but this item was made later, in the 20th Century, probably during the Republic period (1911-1949). Condition - a section of the body has been broken and was professionally repaired about 30 years ago (please view enlargements 7 and 8) and there are two drill holes to the base where we have had the vase tested. 38cm (15inches) high. 民国 18世纪风格青花八吉祥纹撇口大瓶
一件18世纪风格青花八吉祥纹撇口大瓶，瓶颈肩部分别饰有蕉叶纹、回形纹和如意纹。底有“大清乾隆年制”青花六字篆书款，但为20世纪约民国时期所做。
品相：瓶身有一部分30年前经过专业修复（见图），底有两个钻孔，此为我们进行热释光测年时留下的。

A porcelain vase hand painted in traditional Chinese style with a continuous mountain and river landscape and accompanying poem. This item was probably made, circa 1950-1975, during the third quarter of the 20th Century. Condition: the base has been drilled for a lamp conversion; no further damages and no restoration. 33cm (13inches) high

A well modelled and painted glazed and "biscuit" figure of Budai made in China during the Republic period (1912-1949). On the base is the mark: Man Yi Sheng Zao - "Made by Man Yi Sheng". This item was brought to the UK by a Liverpool seaman during either the 1930s or 1940s. Condition - excellent - no damages and no restoration. 18cm (7inches) high; 18cm (7inches) wide.

20世纪三四十年代民国 粉彩布袋和尚
一件造型画工精细的素胎布袋和尚坐像，作于民国年间。底有压模制“满仪昇造”四字款。此件为一位来自利物浦的海员在20世纪三四十年代时从中国带到英国。

A large bottle vase painted in Qianjiang style with eight fishes swimming amongst aquatic plants. On one side is a poem which reads "A fisherman I am not, using brush as fishing rod. Casually sketch a few fishes, then look into the painting on the pot. Winter of Ji Si year (1929). Tie Jian Zi Deng Bishan painted at Zhu Shan Mountain." On the base is the seal mark "Bishan". Deng Bishan was one of a very famous group of artists known as The Eight Friends. We believe that this item was made during the Republic period but we do not think it was painted by the hand of Deng Bishan . Condition - very good - there is an old hairline just above the base (please view enlargement 8); no further damages and no restoration. 40cm high.

40厘米高邓碧珊款鱼藻图长颈瓶 民国
一件浅绛彩风格的鱼藻图长颈瓶。一边有诗云：“自知不是烟波客，握笔胡为作钓竿。信手挥成鱼数尾，教君应向画中看。己巳年冬月铁肩子邓碧珊作于珠山。”瓶底有“碧珊”款。邓碧珊为珠山八友之一。我们认为此件虽作于民国，但非出自邓碧珊之手。
品相：很好。底部圈足上有冲缝（见图8），无其他损伤或修复。高40厘米。

A bowl, made in imitation of late Qing Imperial style, with two roundels - one depicting a five clawed Dragon and the other a Phoenix - both separated by two iron red bats and above stylized breaking waves. The base carries what is probably the factory mark which, in Pinyin, reads "Jiu Jiang Hui Kang Chu Pin". This item was made in China in the 1940s during the late Republic period. For a dated bowl, with similar decoration, please view item # 1149532 (stock # 789) in our catalogue. Condition - very good - no damages and no restoration. 12cm (4.5ins) diameter.

一件清晚期风格的团龙团凤纹碗，以矾红蝙蝠纹间隔，底部海水纹。底有矾红款“九江惠康出品”。此件应作于上世纪四十年代。有具体纪年的类似之例，请参见本店图录中第1149532号（货号789）的藏品。

A very finely carved Huang Yang ("Boxwood") figure group depicting Lu Xing, one of the three Daoist Star Gods. On the back is carved the seal mark of Jing Fu who was active in China during the Republic period (1912-1949) and who was the first student of the famous Huang Yang wood carver Zhu Zichang. There is a very similar carving by Jing Fu in the collection of Wen Zhou Museum, Zhejiang Province - we will be happy to email a link to the carving in the museum on request. Condition - very good - it is lacking its original stand; there are two small chips to the base (back) and an age crack to the left of Lu Xing's foot (please view enlargement 8). Additional pictures are available on request. 17cm (6.7inches) high.

民国时期 黄杨木雕“禄星”像 “敬孚”款
一件雕工精湛的黄杨木雕“禄星”。像背面刻有“敬孚”字样署名。敬孚，民国时期温州人，为晚清著名黄杨木雕师朱子常的大徒弟。温州博物馆有一件与此非常相似的木雕，亦为敬孚所刻。此相似之例的照片，可以在温州博物馆·数字博物馆中找到（如有需要，可提供网页链接）。
品相：很好。缺底座。底部北面有两处小磕，禄星左足有一处因年代久远导致的裂纹（见图8）。如有需要，可提供更多照片。像高17厘米。

A richly patinated carved wood figure of a seated drum playing musician. This item was made in Bali, circa 1900-1940, during the first half of the 20th Century. Condition - very good - there is a small chip to the head-dress (please view enlargement 11) - no further damage and no repairs. 18cm (7 inches) wide; 32cm (12.5 inches) high.

A small Paktong Ink Box with engraved landscape decoration, made in China during the Republic period (1912-1949) or earlier. The copper base bears a shop or retailer's mark which reads "Yong Fa Chang". Condition - there are small surface bumps and marks (please view enlargements) and there is wear to the base. 4.4cm (1.75ins) square; 2.4cm (0.9ins) deep.

A large carved hardwood bust of a dancer in traditional costume, signed Klung Kung, and made in Bali during the first half of the 20th Century, circa 1920 to 1950. Height 36cm (14inches); weight 2.5kg (5.5lb).
