A 'bronze' (copper zinc alloy) hand warmer decorated, we think, with scenes from the "Xi Xiang Ji" - a Yuan dynasty (1279-1368) story known in the west as "The Romance of the Western Chamber ". The pierced cover depicts two dragons amongst stylized clouds in pursuit of a pearl. On the base is the six character reign mark of the Ming dynasty Xuande emperor (1426-1435) but this item was made later, probably in the 20th Century, during the Republic period (1911-1949).
Condition : excellent - no damages and no repairs.
12cm (4.7 inches) high; 16.5cm (5.5 inches) high with handles raised; 14cm (5.5 inches) wide.
