Qianlong mark and of the period, 1736-1795
Diameter: 11 ¼ in. (28.4 cm.)
Height: 5 1/8 in. (13 cm.)

A massive transparent emerald green glass bowl with thick flaring walls, the base diamond-point engraved with a Qianlong nian zhi (made during the Qianlong period) four-character mark in seal-script within a square.

For an almost identical bowl in amber glass, see Asiantiques (2009), cat. no. 13. The presence of numerous large bubbles is a very good indication of the dating of the bowl. It is quite a rare piece due to the technical difficulty in producing such a large bowl in this time period. It was not meant to be a cabinet piece, and it was most likely made to hold and display items such as oranges, grapes, peaches or pomegranates.
