Huge hand painted Japanese blue and white porcelain charger with an intricate painted scene of a hermit’s retreat in the mountains. The painting shows great depth and with shading and line quality. A work of art in porcelain.

A very large porcelain shallow charger with a cobalt painted scene of mountains, forests, hermits, pavilions and water. The rim is decorated with a painted cobalt band. The underside rim has floral scrolling and bands above the foot ring. The foot ring is not glazed but the base is. There are sager marks on the base. The clay of the foot ring is smooth, white and refined. The white glaze has a slight bluish cast and is thick, smooth, and shiny. The cobalt is rich and deep blue.

There are no porcelain marks or labels.

21 5/8” (55.1 cm) diameter. 3 1/8” (7.9 cm) tall. Weight 12 lb 10.6 oz (5.71 kg)

There are no cracks, breaks, or chips. The charger rings like a bell. There are very tiny kiln flaws such as; dimples, and spots.

A large work of art that will make a décor statement. You will definitely see this charger from across the room. It is like a Japanese scroll painting. It would look wonderful in a group of blue and white porcelain.
