Elaborate, colorful and meticulously made women’s robe. Very time consuming hand work. Not only the embroidery but the layered fabric edging with piping.

The robe was for a smaller size woman or teenage girl. The main body of the robe is a thick black silk with an inner lining is of a lightweight pink silk. The outer robe is embroidered with three roundels of pheasants and arches of grain on the front, three on the back with one on each shoulder. The cuffs and the front and back at the bottom have extensive embroidered waves that nearly undulate as you look at them. The colors used in the embroideries are red, blue, green, white and pink. The collar has sprays of grain at the neck. The edging of the robe is done with a brocade strip of a small floral pattern edged with blue and pink piping. The robe has slits up the sides. There are light green fabric looped buttons at the neck and one in the middle of the front.

CONDITION
The robe has some small damages and is wrinkled from storage. There are a few white spots by one cuff that might come out (see photo). The folds under of both sleeves near the cuffs are frayed (see photo). The neck buttons and loops are now frayed and don’t work, and the lower loop on the robe is now frayed open. Other than a stain on the wave embroidery on the back, and an occasional thread sticking up, the embroidery is in very good condition. The inside lining is soiled and shows holes and the lining at the neck has become loose (see photo). Despite the damages, the robe is very lovely and still shows very well.

An elaborate colorful robe to hang as a wall decoration or add to a collection. The time to make this robe is extensive. It won’t be repeated today because of cost and level of expertise.
