Heavy carved nephrite jade lidded vase that has been mounted with silver.
A heavy pale green transitioning to buff-colored nephrite jade has been carved into an urn shaped vase with a raised foot and a sloping neck opening to a round mouth. The vase is covered with delightfully delicate carvings of lotus leaves and blossoms.
A lid has been carved to fit the vase. The lid has a round flower bud finial with plantain lappets on the mouth of the vase and the edge of the lid. These are mirrored in the silver mount on the vase. There are three equidistant lingzhi handles on the lid and on the mouth of the vase. The jade is a similar pale green as the base of the vase.
The silver mounts match the profile of the carvings. They are thick and heavy. The silver has polished up nicely.
The jade is heavy and translucent, and it feels cold and smooth in the hand.
5 1/8” (13.0 cm) tall x 2” (5.1 cm) diameter Weighs 12.0 oz (335 g)
The piece is intact except for a ring missing on the lid in one of the lingzhi mounts on the lid. There are no cracks or breaks on the lid and vase.
A pleasing combination of jade and silver makes this vase stand out. It literally glows from within. It would look amazing lit from below!
