Sinuous, heavy, black, gothic dragon candle holders that were forged and worked to make these fantastic shapes.
Heavy dark, iron metal that has been hammered and heated to form fantastic shapes of dragons with mouths wide, exposing teeth and elongated tongue. Outstretched ridged wings have been riveted on to add dimension to the sculptures. A spiral pole has been attached behind the head that at the top has an attached cup to hold the candle. The body has been filed and stamped with designs. There are two front outstretched legs with cloven hoof feet. The back portion of the sculpture rests on a curl in the sinuous tail. The flat end of the tail has three points. The pair are slightly different due to the hand work. They still make a great pair. They both sit flat on a table. You might want to put felt pads on their bases or have protection for the surface where they rest. They could easily scratch a wood surface.
12 ¾” (32.4 cm) tall x 10” (25.4 cm) deep x 6 ½” (16.5 cm) wide. The pair weighs 9 lbs 4.6 oz (4.22 kg)
There are some rust spots but no breaks, chips, or cracks. One candle pole moves slightly but is not broken. They look great.
Imposing works of art that are useful and decorative. I could see them facing each other on a mantle with candles ablaze. They harken back to medieval days.
