This unusually shaped bronze censer has a foliate quatrefoil form and two nail like handles on either side. It has a rich, deep, dark patina. The undecorated exterior walls are not perfectly smooth and you can see what appears to be casting marks. The bottom also shows casting marks, as though the piece wasn’t polished perfectly. The censer is very heavy for the size.
The bottom has four round feet and a cast Zuande reign mark.
6 ½” (16.5 cm) long x 5 ½” (14.0 cm) wide x 3-5/8” (2.5 cm) tall Weighs 2 lb 13.6 oz (1290 g)
There are no cracks or noticeable scratches, except on the bottom of the feet. There are some spots where the patina is missing and you can see the underlying bronze. The underlying bronze is lighter than the patina, but still darkened from age. The inside has residue from ashes from use.
This is a handsome but rather unusual piece that has a lot of character despite its relative lack of embellishment.
