Repurposed 19th century pale green nephrite floral plaque that has been inset into a rosewood lid that fits tightly on a rosewood box. The wood of the box has a nice reddish color which complements the pale green jade.
A pale green jade plaque is pale green carved with a design is of two flowers on a stem. The plaque has piercings that show the red box underneath. The carving of the jade has a nice hand polished soft look, which indicates some age.
The rectangular box with lid has been constructed from red rosewood with a nice tight grain. The box lid has a flange that fits the box snuggly. The box has a nicely cut base foot that is a very Chinese in design. It is much newer than the jade.
The box has are no marks or labels.
5 1/8” (13.0 cm) long x 3 ½” (8.3 cm) wide x 2 ¼” (5.7 cm) tall. The carved jade insert measures 2 5/8” (6.7 cm) x 1 7/8” (4.8 cm). Weighs 8.6 oz (240 g)
The wood shows slight wear but looks very rich. The wood base has shrunk a bit and so it’s possible to see light along the joint when held up to a light.
A wood box that serves as a wonderful instrument to show off the lovely pale green jade plaque. The box is also a good place for little treasures.
