Intricate embroidery and fabric panel art from China that is so intricate and fine.
A cotton fabric dyed in shades of blue, black, brown and red has been stitched by hand with fine silk threads using a variety of stitch techniques. Appliques were layered forming elaborate designs of auspicious symbols, such as bats, ruyi heads, and the fungus of longevity. A small pocket on the front is covered in elaborate embroidery. The back is lined with a black cotton cloth.
24” tall x 13” wide. Weighs 4.7 oz (135 g)
There is some fading and soiling from age. The top left edge of the small pocket has some damage. There are a few tiny threads coming loose near the top of the collar. All in all, it’s amazing how intact it is for being so old.
A great old Chinese piece of clothing that has survived to today. A piece of folk art to be framed or added to a collection.
