Large blue and white Chinese ginger jar that has a fun design of children at play with a qilin.

A hand potted and hand painted Chinese ginger jar that shows the potter’s wheel marks on the unglazed surfaces. The shiny, bluish glaze is thick, smooth and unctuous to the touch. The cobalt under glaze is a deep, dark, smoky blue.

The design is of children with a flag and an umbrella. One child is riding the mythical qilin. Along the unglazed mouth is a key fret pattern. A banana plant is painted on the top of the lid. The unglazed foot ring is smooth from years of wear. The base, lip and interior of the jar are glazed. The lid has an unglazed lip edge but is otherwise glazed.

8 ¾” (22.2 cm) tall x 8 ¾” (22.2 cm) diameter. Weighs 4 lb 4.6 oz (1.94 kg)

There are no chips, cracks or breaks. There are kiln flaws such as dimples, black spots, and reserves. There are slight wear marks. The jar looks bright and shiny.

A large decorative ginger jar with humor and whimsy. There is so much experienced painting and workmanship.
