The crisp hand-painted designs of butterflies amid gourds and vines on a turquoise background are in blue, red, yellow, green and black over-glaze enamels, all outlined in black. The inside of the bowl is glazed in white. The turquoise glaze has a nice glassy feel, but is rather thin. The glaze control is not the best.
The mouth of the classically-shaped bowls flare from a nice round body. The raised foot-ring is unglazed but the base is glazed.
There are four matching characters on each bowl in overglaze red.
Each bowl measures 6 ¼” diameter at the rim and 2 5/8” tall. Together they weigh 1 lb 4.5 oz.
The condition is very good. No cracks or breaks. They both ring true. One bowl has 2 rim chips. The other bowl is perfect. They both have a couple of faint dark spots on the inside of the bowl.
A beautiful colorful pair of bowls with wonderful hand-painted designs. Classically shaped bowls which mimic imperial wares.
