Large powder blue vase with matching lid that has been delicately, intricately painted in gold designs of auspicious symbols.

The porcelain has been covered in a thick, smooth, powder blue glaze ground. You can see fine blue dots in areas where the glaze was sprayed on. Fine and elaborate gilt patterns of lotus, vines, artemisia leaves, bats, double shou symbols, flower baskets and elaborate border patterns have been painted over the base blue glaze. The gold shows well against the dark blue glaze. The domed lid matches the gold paintings on the jar. The lid’s bottom edge also has a key fret design. The lid is topped with a painted wood finial.

The outer mouth and the foot ring are not glazed, but the base is glazed. The jar shows excellent control of the glaze. The base is marked with double cobalt ring. The shallow foot is slightly rounded. Potter’s wheel marks are visible on the unglazed areas and the clay is a nice light off white. The interior lid and jar are glazed in a thick blue tinged white glaze. The edge of the lid is unglazed.

The glaze feels very smooth to the touch, and the jar has a nice weight to it.

14 1/2” (36.8 cm) tall x 7” (17.8 cm) diameter. Weighs 5 lb 1.2 oz (2.30 kg)

The jar was drilled for a lamp and the base has an excellent repair that is nearly invisible from the bottom. You can see the repair inside when looking inside the jar. The lid was also drilled and has been fitted with a matching blue wood finial and brass mount. There are no other cracks, chips, or breaks. There are potting flaws at the mouth that were coated with glaze on the inside. There is wear to the gilding in spots. There are glaze flaws like black spots, pimples and reserve spots. The vase has a bright, entire look.

A professionally, intricately painted vase with age, and a rich beauty. The large size and gold paintings make this vase stand out. It will go with many decors and add substance and richness.
