An auspicious animal made of a human face, horse mane, and lion body. They were guardians to protect against bad spirits. A well molded piece that is a sculptural work of art.

The figure is a heavy piece of white porcelain. The white color is not stark white, but rather has a yellow tone to the white. The figure sits on a square base with cut outs of circles and rounded flowers. The piece is molded, rather than shaped by hand. There are very subtle mold marks on the chest and back. The molding is well done with teeth, tongue, and hair in good relief. The base is unglazed.

There is the mark CHINA in black stamped on the base.
7” (17.8 cm) tall x 4” (10.3 cm) long x 2 ½” (6.4 cm) Weighs 1 lb 3.9 oz (560 g)

I can see no chips, breaks, or cracks. There are a few tiny kiln flaws such as black dots, separations and bumps but they are all tiny. The piece shows very well.

An auspicious animal to protect your home. Very well sculpted and with a very interesting shape.
